The 2022 driver line-up for McLaren included Lando Norris, who joined them in 2019, and Daniel Ricciardo who began his journey with the iconic team in 2021. It was a positive year with Norris finishing seventh and Ricciardo finishing in 11th, however only one podium was obtained (by Norris), compared to their previous season which saw them being the only team on the grid to achieve a 1-2 finish (in Italy). 

Nevertheless, the 2022 season was an important year. It marked Ricciardo’s final year with the team. It also saw a new era for F1 and F1 cars, with new regulations being brought in which aimed to make the grid more even in terms of performance. 

This halo was first trialled in Formula 1 in 2016, before becoming mandatory in the sport in 2018 in order to protect drivers' heads from flying debris or from injury if the car was to flip. After many years of research, the halo was found to be the only thing that was able to pass the test of deflecting a wheel being fired at 150mph.
