The chassis of the race car is often referred to as the structure or skeleton of the race car; it is the part of the car in which the engine and suspension are attached. This chassis side can be seen on the right side of the race car, and is a small piece of bodywork which helps make up the overall chassis.
The vents seen on these chassis sides are added to the car panels for races that are held in hot climates, in order to aid the cooling of the car.
In some instances the size of the vents vary depending on the running car temperatures. For the Racing Point cars, the left chassis vents were for intercooler temperature control, whereas the right-hand was for water temperature control. Both, however are for additional cooling, as the air normally goes under the engine cover and exits from the rear of the car.
The downside of adding vents such as these, however, meant that the airflow around the car was often disrupted, which negatively impacted the aerodynamics.
The team line up for 2018 included Sergio Perez and Esteban Ocon who each finished the season in eighth and 12th place, respectively.
Please note: All F1 bodywork is unique and therefore the item you receive may differ slightly to the one pictured. Some of the chassis sides will vary depending on the different aero packages.
