The 2024 Australian Grand Prix was an action-packed race – with the McLaren team leaving the grid with an impressive collection of points between Piastri in fourth and his teammate, Lando Norris who claimed third. The race saw Piastri climb from fifth to third after a successful undercut at the first set of pit stops, but the driver was later ordered by his team to switch back positions with Norris who was quicker on a fresher set of tyres.

The seamless switch was a success in itself, with Piastri giving up the chance to claim a P3 at his home race for the sake of playing the team game – a decision which ultimately maximised the team’s result.
