1972 BRM P180 Official Show Car

A Rare Piece of Racing History

F1® Authentics is proud to present the 1972 BRM P180 Official Show Car - a full-scale tribute to one of British Racing Motors’ most distinctive and unconventional designs, created for the 1972 Formula One season.

Designed by acclaimed F1® engineer Tony Southgate, the BRM P180 stood apart from its contemporaries with a radical rear-engine layout and dramatically sculpted bodywork. The car made a total of seven entries during the 1972 FIA Formula One World Championship™, with its best result being an eighth-place finish at the Italian Grand Prix.

This show car is a faithful recreation of the original chassis, styled in the red-and-white livery synonymous with BRM’s factory entries of the era. With exposed suspension arms, period-correct wheels and tyres, and an open cockpit true to 1970s engineering, the P180 captures the bold spirit of a team that dared to innovate.

As a non-running display model, this car is ideal for collectors, classic motorsport exhibitions, and F1® heritage installations seeking to showcase the evolution of Formula One design during its golden age.

Story

The BRM P180 was introduced in 1972 as part of British Racing Motors’ Formula 1® efforts. Designed by Tony Southgate, it was notable for its radical wedge-shaped design and forward-positioned engine placement.

The car was driven by Jean-Pierre Beltoise, Howden Ganley and Brian Redman but suffered challenges due to handling issues and cooling problems. The P180 only competed in a handful of races before being replaced by the more conventional P160 model. Although short-lived, the P180 remains a fascinating example of BRM’s experimental approach to car design during the 1970s.
