Worn during the final Grand Prix weekend of one of Formula 1®'s most remarkable championship-winning seasons, this Jenson Button Brawn GP race suit comes from the 2009 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, where the British driver made his first appearance as the newly crowned World Champion.
Just two weeks earlier, Button had secured his maiden and only Drivers' World Championship at the Brazilian Grand Prix, completing an extraordinary season for a team that had almost disappeared before the opening race. Now, this weekend-used suit offers a rare connection to the closing chapter of Brawn GP's historic year in Formula 1®.
The Remarkable Story of Brawn GP
At the end of 2008, Honda announced its withdrawal from Formula 1®, placing the future of its racing team and both its drivers in doubt. With just weeks remaining before the 2009 season, Ross Brawn led a management buyout, saving the Brackley-based operation and establishing Brawn GP.
Few could have predicted what followed.
Armed with the BGP 001 and its innovative double-diffuser design, Brawn GP arrived at the Australian Grand Prix and immediately established itself as a championship contender. Button secured pole position and victory on the team's debut, beginning an extraordinary run that would see him win six of the opening seven races.
Victories in Australia, Malaysia, Bahrain, Spain, Monaco and Turkey gave Button a commanding advantage in the championship standings. However, as rival teams developed their cars and closed the performance gap, the second half of the season became increasingly difficult.
Button would not win another race that year, with Red Bull emerging as a serious threat and teammate Rubens Barrichello claiming victories in Valencia and Monza. Despite the mounting pressure, Button continued collecting valuable points, ultimately securing the World Championship with a determined drive from 14th to fifth at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Against extraordinary odds, Brawn GP had won both the Drivers' and Constructors' World Championships in its debut season.
The World Champion's First Grand Prix
The 2009 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix marked a significant moment in Button's career. Arriving at the Yas Marina Circuit with the championship already secured, he would compete for the first time as Formula 1® World Champion.
The inaugural race in Abu Dhabi also marked the conclusion of Brawn GP's remarkable campaign. Qualifying fifth, Button fought his way onto the podium, challenging Mark Webber for second place in the closing laps before eventually finishing third behind the two Red Bull drivers.
It was a fitting conclusion to a season that had begun with uncertainty and ended with Button celebrating the greatest achievement of his Formula 1® career.
A Piece of Formula 1® History
The significance of this race suit extends beyond Button's individual championship success.
Brawn GP competed in just one Formula 1® season, entering 17 Grands Prix in 2009 before the team was acquired by Mercedes-Benz and became the Mercedes works team for 2010. Its brief existence, combined with its extraordinary success, makes original memorabilia from the team's only campaign particularly desirable.
Associated with Button's first Grand Prix weekend as World Champion and Brawn GP's final appearance on the grid, this suit represents a rare opportunity to own an item from a defining chapter in modern Formula 1® history.

Auction Buyers Guide
Our team's primary aims are to source the most unique items for our auctions and to make participating in our online events enjoyable and easy for our buyers. We endeavour to do this whilst offering a personalised service to all.
Step 1: Register to Bid
To register as a bidder, create an account on our account. You'll be asked to provide your credit card details, and a temporary charge will be placed on the account for the duration of the auction to minimise fraudulent accounts from interfering with the bidding process.
Step 2: Place Your Bid
Items at auction may be sold with or without a reserve price, and will be clearly identified as such during the auction.
For a sale to be successful a bid must equal or exceed the reserve. In the event that you are the highest final bidder, but the total bid remains under the reserve price the item will not sell.
Popcorn Bidding: All lots use a 5-minute time extension system. If a bid is placed within the final 5 minutes, the lot’s end time will extend by another 5 minutes. This can continue for up to 24 hours after the original closing time.
Items that are sold without a reserve will be clearly identified as such during the auctions. In their case the highest final bid will always win the item.
Items that do not meet reserve or do not receive any bids will not sell. Upon the closure of the auction these will be removed and managed independently by our specialists. Interested parties are invited to engage with our private sales team to make an offer.
Step 3: Make Payment
We pride ourselves in offering our customers a variety of payment options to satisfy their preferences. Upon conclusion of the auction the F1® Authentics sales platform will automatically issue a payment link to the winning bidder.
Payment is due in full by the end of the first business day following a sale. Proof of payment will be required and requested by our specialists.
Auction hammer price is exclusive of buyer's premium and sales tax, and exclusive of import duties and VAT.
All invoices and payments will be in Great British Pounds (GBP).
Step 4: Lot Shipment
Memento Exclusives operates with several reputable logistics experts. Our partners have experience coordinating the worldwide shipment of valuable and delicate vehicles and collectibles and will ensure products are treated with the utmost care.
Upon conclusion of a sale our specialist will contact the winning bidder to discuss delivery options. Air and sea freight quotes can be produced for items.
Returns & Refunds
Returns & Refunds Policy – Auction Items
All auction sales are final. We do not accept returns or offer refunds on any items won at auction.
Each lot is described as accurately as possible, with detailed photographs and specifications provided. By placing a bid, you acknowledge and accept:
- The item is sold as seen, with no warranty or guarantee expressed or implied.
- No cancellations, returns, or exchanges will be accepted after a bid is placed and the auction has ended.
- It is the bidder’s responsibility to carefully review the item description, imagery, and any notes regarding condition, provenance, or location prior to placing a bid.
- Any questions or requests for clarification must be made before the auction ends.
We aim to be fully transparent, and we encourage all bidders to make informed decisions. If additional information is required before bidding, please contact us at: info@f1authentics.com
