Description
The Flying Finn took his first World Championship for McLaren in 1998, and this is your chance to own a real piece of that incredible history.
Mika Hakkinen is one of the best drivers of his era. Before 1998, McLaren had been struggling since their domination with Ayrton Senna. Mika came in as Senna’s replacement when he left for Williams – and had only managed a best result of 4th in the championship. McLaren’s biggest flaw was that it was unreliable, and that was detrimental to Hakkinen’s progress with the team. In 1997, McLaren were the 4th best team - as they were beaten by Williams, Ferrari & Benetton.
For 1998, McLaren had signed Adrian Newey to design their car. Adrian Newey had an immediate effect – he managed to design a faster & more reliable McLaren.
With a much-improved car, Hakkinen took the first win of the season at the Australian GP. He managed to take another win at the very next race.
As the 1998 season progressed, the Championship battle emerged as Hakkinen vs Schumacher. The two battled it out throughout the season, and as they headed into the final two races of the season they were locked on 80 points, with 6 race wins apiece.
Hakkinen took the win at Hockenheim, with Schumacher finishing just behind in 2nd – advantage Mika, but you can never write of Michael. The final round was at Suzuka & Hakkinen took another win to seal the World Championship.
This is a brand-new version of the Bodywork Acrylic. This new design gives you the capability to perfectly preserve the bodywork, but now you can open up the acrylic and hold your own piece of bodywork.
Mika Hakkinen took his first title in Formula 1, beating the lethal combination of Schumacher & Ferrari – and with this bodywork in acrylic you can own a piece of that championship winning season.
This is a real piece of the car that was designed by Newey & driven by Hakkinen to a McLaren World Championship. You can own a piece of F1 heritage, from two of the biggest names in the sport.
